Notes:
- Educated at Julliard, also studied under Aaron Copland.
- He wrote a score to 2001: A Space Odyssey, but director
Stanley Kubrick pulled his music in favor of existing classical works.
- He did not win any Academy Awards for his scores, but in 1986
the Academy gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award.
- He did win a Golden Globe, however.
